
EVELYN F. KOCH HAFFT, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010. She was the president and owner of Certified Burglar & Fire Alarm Systems, which was started in 1925 by her husband, Sylvester Koch; he preceded her in death in 1959. She continued with the business on her own until. her son, Steven Koch could join her in running the corporation. She has been the face of Certified Alarm for over 70 years. In addition to being a prominent business woman, she loved to travel and to relax in her second home at Hamilton Lake. "Her greatest joys were working every day and doing things for others. Evelyn's candor and indomitable spirit are legendary." She leaves behind numerous friends who will cherish many fond memories. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She is survived by her only son, Steve (Dianne) Koch; stepdaughter, Mary; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Raymond Hafft; and sister, Janet Merckx. A Celebration of Life service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2313 S. Hanna, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Douglas Punke officiating. Calling also from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, Heartland Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.
