Frederick M. Sheets

Frederick M. Sheets, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Born on May 30, 1935 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Edwin S. and Margaret E. (Hertwig) Sheets. Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne (Brackmann) Sheets, in 2011. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in 1953. Fred proudly served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He retired from International Harvester/Navistar in 1996 after a career spanning 43 years as a product designer.

Fred lived a life of loyal service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, and his community. The time he spent worshiping and serving with people at Concordia throughout his life was of the utmost importance to him. He dearly valued the relationships he formed as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. He had a longstanding bi-weekly appointment at the American Red Cross where he donated hundreds of units of whole blood and platelets. His greatest joys in life, however, came from spending time with family. Fred was lovingly devoted to Anne for 54 years. They enjoyed exploring the cities, beaches, mountains, parks, historical sites & attractions of this great country and instilled a love of travel in their daughter. He (and Anne) especially cherished time spent with kids – his most dearly loved grandchildren and precious great-grandchildren, as well as Anne’s & his nephews, nieces, great-, and great-great nephews & nieces.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Dave) Allen, of Montgomery, TX; his grandchildren, Annette (Milt) Sluder of Williston, ND, and Derek (Jamie) Allen of Houston, TX; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Maggie, and Mina. Additionally, he is survived by two brothers, Jim Sheets and John (Tammy) Sheets. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Ted Sheets and Sharon (Sheets) Gerber.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, at 11:00am at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4 to 6pm, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
