

GEORGE "MICKEY" EDWARDS, 60, of Cato, Wis., died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, Wis. Born Feb. 22, 1952, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of Charlotte (Bennett) Edwards and the late George J. Edwards. He graduated from Snider High School, then served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked for many years at Superior Linkage, where he was an IUE Union President, and then at L & L Fittings. He retired in 1996 to become a full-time parent, and moved with his family to Wisconsin in 2004. All his life, He had been an avid outdoorsman, frequently fishing and hunting. He enjoyed all things connected with food, gardening, preserving, cooking, baking, and eating. Many have enjoyed George's skill and generosity with food. He also served his community over the years as a Boy Scout leader, a director of the Indiana Lakes Management Society, and a member of the Lions Club. He was a leader of the Lions Club International Youth Exchange Program in Indiana and Wisconsin, and hosted in his home 25 students from around the world. Surviving are his wife, Cathy (Carnarius) Edwards of Cato, Wis.; daughter, Jennifer Edwards of Cato, Wis.; mother, Charlotte; sons, John (Tina) Edwards, Jason (Jodee) Edwards and Joe (Dana) Edwards, all of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; brother, Steven (Nancy) Edwards; and sisters, Nancy (Albert) Deininger, Sharon (Jerry) Smith, Denise (Gene) Keller and Amy Edwards. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Fort Wayne (Indiana) Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5310 Old Mill Road. the Rev. Jennie Barrington officiating. All are invited to an informal luncheon in the fellowship hall following the service. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society .
