Obituary of Jonathan Odell Bass
Jonathan Odell Bass, 37, of Fort Wayne, passed away on September 24, 2021. Born on March 28, 1984, in Newport Beach, California, he was the son of Jeffrey O. and Jeanine M. (nee Cozad) Bass, who survive. Jon graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 2002 and went to Boot Camp soon after. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 2002-2011. After graduating MOS school he was stationed in Beaufort, SC where he remained the majority of his career. He met his wife in Beaufort and they were married in 2009. Both of his boys were also born in Beaufort. Jon and Virginia moved to Fort Wayne after their military careers. He was a member of Christ Church. He worked for H&W Machine as an Electronics Technician and was one of the top technicians in his field, working both domestically and internationally. He also owned a small side business, Red Reed Wood Works, where he made pens, cigar accessories, and other small wood projects. Jon enjoyed collecting pinup, Corsair, and Star Wars memorabilia. Jon was an avid lover of photography and enjoyed taking pictures of his sons' sports games. He was an amazing father and was his kids biggest cheerleader. There was nothing he loved more than taking them out and having “Daddy Time”, while teaching them something new. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife playing video games, watching TV, cooking, and spending time out with the kids. Jon was a great friend and would always be willing to help, whether it was moving a couch, or sitting and talking when people needed an ear. At home you could often find him out in his workshop, working on new ideas for his woodworking business, or editing pictures. He had also recently gotten into cigars (much to the dismay of his wife), and enjoyed smoking a new “stick” in the evening to relax. His favorite thing to do in the evenings was to sit out back and smoke a cigar with an Old Fashioned, while listening to his favorite Jazz singers and throwing sticks for his dogs. He is also survived by his wife, Virginia K. (nee Walker) Bass; sons, Sam, and Xander; sisters, Jennifer, Julianne, and Jessica; and grandparents, Sherry Bass, and Dennis, and Janet Cozad. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmie Bass. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Christ's Church (3131 South Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne), with calling one hour prior. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations in Jon's honor may be directed to Fort Wayne 22 (www.fw22.org). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for Jon's family may be shared at www.HockemeyerMillerFH.com
