Leona M. Beckmann

Leona M. (Schulz) Beckmann, age 96, went to her heavenly home on October 18, 2024, at Courtyard Manor in Howell, Michigan. Born on April 2, 1928, on a farm east of Garland, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late William and Sophie (Tiemann) Schulz. Leona was baptized on April 15, 1928, in Garland, Nebraska. During her early years she resided in Garland, Gresham, Beaver Crossing and Seward, Nebraska. Leona married the late Harvey F. Beckmann on June 22, 1947, and was happily married 66 years. In 1957 they moved from the family farm to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they were long-standing members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was active in the food pantry ministry, bowling league, Bible studies and served as Girl Scout leader. In 1963 with her husband they opened Lafayette Radio Electronics Store, later renamed Harvey's Electronic Store. After retirement she worked at Concordia High School Thrift Store. With her avid love of quilting she designed quilts for Concordia Lutheran High School auctions and confirmation gifts to her twelve grandchildren. Leona enjoyed life by playing cards, square dancing and baking. She is survived by three daughters, Merna (Ronald) Ahlemeyer of Johns Island, South Carolina, Verna (Steven) Schultz of Shawano, Wisconsin, and Iris (Michael) Armitage of Howell, Michigan, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Bernice (Schulz) Lange of Malcolm, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doreen (Edward) Witte of Valparaiso, Indiana, and siblings Alma Warnscholz, Edwin Schulz, Marvin Schulz, and Lester Schulz. Her faith in the Lord was evident as she often expressed, "He's right by my side!" The funeral service will be held at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana at 4:00 PM on October 26, 2024, with visitation from 2:30 until the time of service. Pastor Dan Dahling will offocaite. Leona will be buried beside her husband at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
