Maria "Tere" T. Cardenas, age 75 passed away on Thursday November 14, 2019. She was born August 9, 1944 in Marine NL, MEX to the late Thomas and Maria Luisa Gonzalez. She was the eldest of 6 children.
Maria married and moved to Fort Wayne in 1970 where 4 children were born. She was employed at Wayne Candies for 16 years and Nishikawa for 10 years. Maria loved to make others happy with her cooking, but she was famous for her baking. Her secret recipes still remain a secret. She was a loving, caring mother who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Surviving her are her children, Gema (Keith) Arnold, Gilberto (Heather) Jr., Elda (Latrail), and Jeffrey Cardenas; grandchildren, Samuel, Emani, Evelyn, and Christian; brothers, Jesus (Santis), Baldemar (Eloisa), and Rolando Gonzalez; and a host of relatives. Also preceding her in passing was her husband of 49 years, Gilberto Cardenas Sr. "Two people who God joined together and departed together"; and sisters, Maria Christina, Maria Luisa, and Myra Gonzalez.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 1:00 PM, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46835) with visitation two hours prior. Memorial contributions in Maria's memory may be made to Parkview Hospice or Ashton Creek Nursing Home and Rehab.
