Norma Bertha Olga (Bradtmueller) Herzog, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 95. She spent her life in Fort Wayne, born to the late Adolph and Viola (Nuoffer) Bradtmueller, where she attended Emmanuel Lutheran grade school and Concordia Lutheran High School (class of 1947) where she met Guenther K. Herzog. While enrolled at Concordia Teacher’s College in River Forest, Illinois, she started dating Guenther K. Herzog after a double-blind date. After graduation in 1950, they wed in July of 1951 and were married for 68 years until Guenther’s death in 2020. Norma was a loving mother and grandmother to her sons, Phillip and Paul and their families, who cherished her beautiful smile, devoted faith, and subtle wit. Norma had a close relationship with her Lord and was patient and kind to everyone who knew her. She taught for one year at New Haven Lutheran and then stayed home to raise the children. Then from 1966 to 1985 she taught at Peace-Redeemer and Bethlehem Lutheran and was an active member at Zion Lutheran, Bethlehem Lutheran, and Concordia Lutheran Churches, respectively. In retirement years, when not busy traveling around the country to sightsee and visit family and friends, she enjoyed volunteering, reading, and swapping jigsaw puzzles with her beloved sister and best friend, Aileen (Bradtmueller) Witte. She is survived by son, Phillip (Susan) and grandsons Adam (Greta), Ryan (Rebecca), and Jacob (Caitlin), and son, Paul (Marsha) and grandson, Chris (Annie) and granddaughter, Siena. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guenther K. Herzog; brother, Weldon Bradtmueller; and sister, Aileen (Bradtmueller) Witte. The family thanks the staff at Lutheran Life Villages for her care these last few years, and especially thanks Ruth Winicker, her niece, for her loving and selfless support for both Norma and Guenther over many years. A funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation beginning at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
