

Roland “Rollie” “Legs” Keuneke, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at his home. Born September 23, 1927 in Mount Healthy, Ohio, he was a son of the late Otto and Helen (Bedinghaus) Keuneke. Roland graduated from Fort Wayne Central High School in 1946 and enlisted into the US Army in Oct. 1946. He spent 16 months serving in Japan in the Occupational Forces. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and always looked forward to going to church to praise his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball and basketball with his many friends on teams such as “Spears Dehner” and “Old City Light. “ One of his great moments in baseball was being asked by the Philadelphia Phillies to try out for their organization. He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was employed by Fruehauf for 10 years and retired from Navistar after 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred “Mick” (Uhlig) Keuneke of Fort Wayne; 36 nieces and nephews, including great and great-great; sisters-in-law, Carol (Otto) Keuneke and Shirley (Bill) Keuneke. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Virginia Keuneke; seven brothers; one sister; one niece; and one nephew. Funeral Service is on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00am at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior; Pastor Doug Croucher officiating. Burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials may be made to Parkview Home Health and Hospice or to Concordia Lutheran Church.
