Steven A. Downey, age 69, of Markle, Indiana passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024. He was the son of the late Maurice and Catherine (Coolman) Downey. Steven lived with his mom and dad until mom passed in 2011. He worked at Easter Seals ARC. Steven then spent some time in respite with Amye Ford. In March of 2011 he went to live in a group home with Pathfinders Services in North Manchester, Indiana, he loved his new home, there was so much to do. When the group home closed, he was moved to Markle Health and Rehabilitation. Steven talked to everyone that he came in contact with. When his brothers Mike and Roger would take him out to eat he would try and talk to everyone in the restaurant. He was a Gentle Giant. He always asked about everyone, he knew your name and he never forgot you. In his childhood he loved to play basketball and ride his bike. Steven loved bowling and competed in The Special Olympics where he won medals and trophies. He is survived by his brothers, Mike and Roger. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Harriet Claymiller Downey, and niece; Dawn Claymiller. A visitation for Steven will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835. A visitation will occur Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835.
