Our beloved brother, Roger Lyn McGowan, left his earthly body and entered the gates of Heaven on April 19th, 2026. Roger peacefully transitioned at his home in Widefield, Colorado with his family close to him.
Roger was born on December 19th, 1951 in Gladewater, Texas to Milton and Olwyn (Pat) McGowan. Our father’s military service sent the family to many states including Hawaii, and Germany. Roger traveled to England with our mother to visit her family there. Roger then became the adventurous brother and his love for travel was born.
Roger loved fishing, camping, skiing, traveling and more than anything his family. He always embraced all the world had to offer him.
Roger spent most of his life working in the restaurant business as a chef, a manager and an owner. He loved serving the public and he loved everyone he met. He was cooking up to the last week of his life.
Roger graduated from Widefield High School, Security, Colorado in 1970 and attended college at Arapahoe College, Denver, Colorado taking business courses.
He made his home in many places including Denver, Colorado; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Andalusia, Alabama and ultimately back to Widefield, Colorado. But Baton Rouge, Louisiana was always the home he longed for. He loved it there and made so many friends there.
Roger spent many years caring for our mother, Olwyn (Pat) until her passing and was always our rock through those years. We are forever grateful for his sacrifice and were blessed to have his devotion to our mother.
Roger is preceded in death by his father, Milton McGowan; mother, Olwyn (Pat) McGowan; brother, Robert McGowan; sister, Deborah McGowan and brother-in-law, Donnie Thompson. Roger is survived by his brother, Michael McGowan; sister, Judy (McGowan) Thompson and sister, Donna (McGowan) Luciani.
Roger was the best uncle ever and is survived by many nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Bolton) Clements (Daniel); Abby Bolton; Brandon McGowan; Brian Luciani; and Christopher Luciani (Emma). His great nephew Harrison Williams (Leeza) and great nieces: Regan Dixon (Austin); Josi Luciani; Lillian Carver; Isla, Sophia and Josephine Luciani; and great-great nephew, Cooper Dixon. We will all forever miss Roger.
We are so very grateful and blessed for the love, kindness and care given by the nurses at Pikes Peak Hospice while caring for Roger in his last weeks, and for preparing us for his transition into the arms of Jesus. It will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Roger’s name to Pikes Peak Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
Private services will be held at a later date.
We love you Roger.
