Anthony Khang Van Nguyen

Our loving Anthony (Anton) Khang Van Nguyen, 87, passed on January 21, 2022 (December 19, 2021, lunisolar calendar) at home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, On Thi Nguyen, his five children and their spouses, along with eight grandchildren. Mr. Khang was born on March 21, 1935, in Hai Phong, Vietnam, to Mr. Thang Cong Nguyen and Mrs. Hiep Thi Dao. Mr. Khang was one of eight children, who endured many hardships early on in life. He left his hometown of Hai Phong at a very young age in pursuit of better opportunities. He found his calling and joined the South Vietnamese Navy in 1958, and subsequently served in the Vietnam War. Following several years of living under an oppressed, communist-controlled nation, he decided to flee Vietnam with his two sons in June of 1982, with a dream to build a more promising future for his family. He ended up at various refugee camps in Malaysia and the Philippines before relocating to Fredericksburg, Virginia in June 1983. With unwavering determination and hard work, he was able to successfully sponsor his wife and remaining three daughters and had finally reunited with them in winter of 1991 – this was the happiest day of his life! Mr. Khang was not born Catholic, but converted to Catholicism through marriage and maintained a strong faith in God. He was extremely active, sharing a love for sports, including soccer, tennis, volleyball, and enjoyed relaxing at the beach. He had an affinity to music and was skilled with the harmonica! But what he loved most was spending quality time with his family and tending to his garden. Mr. Khang worked as a maintenance technician for many years at McLane Mid-Atlantic, in Falmouth, VA and retired from the company at the age of 70. He was a strong fighter, both mentally and physically, having beaten cancer twice, and will always be remembered as a loving grandfather, a caring father, and a devoted husband. A visitation/memorial service will be held in honor of his memory on Wednesday January 26, 2022 from 5pm-9pm at the Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, located at: 1621 Emancipation (old Jefferson Davis) Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 27, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located at: 1009 Stafford Ave., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
