I just now saw that Betty passed away. I am so sorry. We originally knew each other when Daniel and my son were in elementary school. After she moved to King George, we reconnected when I would visit my summer home in King George. She was always loving and caring, looking out for her family and how she could better serve them.  She will be greatly missed and my sincere condolences to all of her family ❤️❤️

Mrs. Grigg has been nothing but the kindest to me and my family for years and years. It breaks my heart so badly to know she is no longer with us. Her love and kindness and charity however will always remain with all of us in our hearts and follow us through our daily lives and inspire us to live with such grace like hers. Sending my condolences and prayers to all family and friends.

Betty was such as wonderful and caring person.  Her positive attitude and going the extra mile in everything she did (because she cared!) made her stand out.  She is truly an angel.  Her experiences, value system, unfaltering perseverance, and constant encouragement is a huge inspiration for me and others.  We will greatly miss her.  My heart goes out to her family.  Our prayers and best wishes will always be with you.

My deepest condolences to the Grigg family, countless friends, and loved ones of Betty. She was a friend to everyone who was lucky enough to meet her. Betty was truly one of a kind. Like many others, I had the honor of meeting and getting to know her kind, beautiful soul while working at NSWCDD.

We both shared a love for birds, especially wrens… the Lovely Fairy Wren from
Australia to be exact. She always wore a necklace of a British “farthing” (her maiden name), which depicts a spunky little wren. Every time I hear or see a wren (you normally hear them before you see them), I think of Betty. Another treasured memory of Betty is a quote that she once told me when I was having an off day; lost in something that now doesn’t matter... “Bloom where you are planted!” she said. It was exactly what I needed to hear, but said in such a thoughtful, gentle, and sincere way.

Cheers to you and your gift of leaving people better than you found them. I imagine you as a beautiful and vivacious lovely fairy wren in heaven. I know I am better for knowing you, and I sincerely thank you for the privilege. Rest In Peace and God bless.

To the Grigg family,

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Sarah and Christian are like family to us, so we are mourning with you during this time.

It was a joy to host Betty, Randy, and Daniel for dinner a few years ago when they visited Washington. I remember hearing many funny stories about various antics performed by members of the Grigg family. It was clear that Betty had lived a full life and was deeply connected to her family.

Our hearts and prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Betty was a wonderful person. Betty and I were coworkers at NSWC Dahlgren. She was a person I always looked forward to chatting with. She was filled with positivity and kindness. I will never forget how she purchased some small sauce storage containers for me because I had complained about forgetting some of my sauce for my lunch at home since I never had a place to store it. She showed me some sauce containers she had and how useful they were. Betty then purchased the exact same containers and gave them to me on her on accord, I never asked her to purchase them. Such a minor gift filled with me with such happiness. I was so touched that she thought of me and went out of her way to help with such a trivial thing, but that was just the the type of person she was, thoughtful.  As a matter of fact, I still use those sauce containers, mainly for my toddler son. Rest in peace Betty and may your family bask in the beautiful memories you left with everyone!

Dear colleagues and Grigg family,

I’m very saddened to hear this.  Betty was so kind and helpful in many ways.  As a HQ employee who comes down to Dahlgren almost every day, I found how kind and nice Betty was.  In one occasion, I came to the base on a day when all buildings were closed.  It was an urgent situation and Betty was so nice to answer my call and personally came in to the base to open the building.  And there are more examples like that.  It was so nice to see someone like Betty who greets people coming in to the building in the morning.  She was so nice, helpful, and wonderful.  We will miss her.  Rest in peace


My deepest condolences to your family. Betty was an amazing woman with such a kind and genuine soul. She was the first friend I made at NSWCDD. I had always looked forward to seeing her and talking about how our loved ones were doing. She never failed to brighten my day. I will sorely miss her and her radiant personality.

You will be hard-pressed to find a better example of someone who implemented dedicated and almost enigmatic love for fellow humans. Betty would go well out of her way to make life easier for any soul that came within reach. The impact of her life and her passing is unmeasurable.

Rest in peace, my beautiful Betty. Wrap your spirit around your loved ones so they can understand why someone as profound as you was called home so soon.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Words can never express the sadness one feels or the comfort that is needed at this time.  You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I send only the most heartfelt love your way.

Betty was a truly special lady.  She always had a smile to great you.  She had the ability to make everyone feel as though you were the highlight of her day when she talked with you.  Really we were the lucky ones because Betty had taken a few moments out of her day to solve our problem or just listen to us.  Your family are in my prayers.



Betty was an exceptional person. I met her outside NSWCDD, but later through NSWCDD. She always was willing to go above and beyond to help. One day I called her about trying to enter the building she was in charge of over a holiday, and she offered to come in, even though she was in bed ill, to allow me access to work. This is the person she was, selfless. Always above and beyond.

Thank you, Betty. You were always a pleasure to talk to and work with. 

To the Grigg family,

My deepest sympathies on the recent loss of Betty.  She and I were co-workers at NSWC Dahlgren and Betty's smiling face greeted me nearly every morning for several years.  She loved to talk about her children and the joy she took in raising them to be the adults they are today.

Memories of Betty will always stay with me for two reasons.  First, Betty was the first person with whom I was able to share the birth of my daughter in person.  She was born during COVID and none of my family could be here.  But I ran into Betty in the hospital parking lot as we were preparing to take our daughter home and she took a few moments of her time to share in our joy.  Second, every time I saw Betty from that point forward, she would always take a moment (or many moments) to ask about my daughter, share in the joys of raising children, and provide wisdom from the raising of her own children.  I did not get to speak with her recently, but I can only imagine the joy and love she felt at being a grandmother.

Betty will be missed, but her memory will live on through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the stories I one day share with my daughter.  The entire Grigg family will be in our prayers during this tough time.

When I first met Betty in early 1980's she introduced herself as the quintessential southern Belle...she was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known  and I will miss you my friend.  Your strength, your beauty was special to us, but most of all meeting you and Randy proved to be my luckiest day when we first met you in Milton.  Godspeed Betty, you will be missed by those that knew you.
