Obituary of Carol Ruth Knettles
Carol Ruth Knettles passed away at home on April 1, 2021, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Carol was born on July 8, 1933, at the Griffith Park Maternity Home in Glendale, California. She attended North Hollywood High School, where she met the love of her life, Charles Knettles. After marrying her dashing Marine Corps pilot, they set off on what would be 60 years of marriage and a lifetime of adventure, traveling to and living in many US states, as well as Japan and Hawaii. FLOWERS! Carol was known for creating delightful, charming gardens! She also loved animals, music, crafting, antiques, and family. She enjoyed nothing more than being with her family and attending large family gatherings...the more the merrier! Her loving spirit lives on in every family member’s house, through the beautiful crafts she would design, sew, and gift people through the years. She had a selfless, giver’s heart, and loved nothing more than making people happy. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, who died in March of 2017, after also struggling for years with Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her three children Steven, Cynthia ,and John; her «adopted » daughter Dana Story (spouse Bill, children Alex and Raye) as well as 8 beloved grandchildren, Hailey (30, spouse Jacob), Zach (27-daughter Muse, 2), McKayla (22), Andrew (21), Anna (20), Rory (17), Ben (15), Jaxson (9). Daughters-in-love Corinne and Kim, and son-in-law Steven Geracoulis. She is also survived by her brother Roger Yates and his wife Carole (children Heather Alemania (spouse Danny, children Elise and Joshua) Kelli Riebesell (spouse Gary) , and Sally Yates (daughter Libby); her nephews Jeff East (spouse Pat, children Justin, Melissa, Christopher), Dan East (spouse Kathy, children AJ and Jordan), Andrew East (children Steven and Samantha), Tom East (spouse Renee, children Jacob, Billy (deceased) and Clay ), and Jim East ( spouse Heidi (deceased) children Chase and Mason); Nieces Iris and Phyllis, Cousins Larry and Patricia Rovetti (children Dave Rovetti (children Dante and Ava) and Lisa Kozak (children Ronnie, Ryan, Rachel); Cousins Gina and James Romo (child Charlie); Cousins Suzanne and Greg Fults (children Kyle, Corey, Heidi); cousin Gretchen Graham (children Gunnar and Kate); cousin Dianne StJohn (children Bruce and Karen); cousin Robert Rovetti. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on May 3, 2021, at Quantico National Cemetery (18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172 ) where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Charles.
