Claude McKinley Adkins, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer at Lake Manassas Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville, Virginia.
Born on August 1, 1957, in Kanawha County, West Virginia, Claude was the son of the late John Henry Adkins and Learlene Faye (Sneed) Adkins.
Claude spent most of his life working in the construction industry, where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew him. He loved the outdoors and took great pride in working with his hands. Whether he was fixing a car, mowing the lawn, helping someone tow a vehicle, or simply enjoying time outside, Claude found happiness in staying active and being useful.
Known for his generous heart, Claude was always willing to help anyone in need. No matter the hour or the weather—rain, sleet, or snow—he could always be counted on to show up. His kindness and dependability left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In his free time, Claude enjoyed relaxing with a Natty Lite beer while watching wrestling or his favorite episodes of Law & Order.
In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by his brothers, Nelson Eugene Sneed, Billy Jean Adkins, and John Marvin Adkins.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Vickie Lee Adkins; his daughters, Shelley Tibbs (Reggie) and Angela Parker (Andrew); his brothers, James Hurley Adkins (Nancy), John Wade Adkins, Jerry Allen Adkins, Frederick Ray Adkins, and Dusty Gene Adkins; his sister, Helen Adkins Greene; and his cherished grandchildren, Michael Hale (Briana Davis), Jason Hale, Jordan Tibbs, Jonathan Tibbs, Logan Parker, and Link Parker. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and extended family members who will deeply miss him.
A celebration of Claude’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Fauquier SPCA (www.fauquierspca.com) or the American Lung Association (www.lung.org) in Claude’s memory.
