She was born in Alleghany County, Va., a daughter of the late Glen and Margaret Martin. She has two brothers, Gary Martin and his wife Mary, who live in Nevada, and Paul Martin and his wife Beverly, who live in northern Virginia.
Jean is survived by her son Scott Griffiths and his wife, Christine; and five grandchildren, Adrienne, Grant, Carson, Katelyn, and Claire. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederic B. Jean grew up in Covington, Va., and after graduating high school moved to Alexandria, Va., to be with her parents. Jean worked for C&P Telephone Company for many years and met her then future-husband Fred while commuting to work one day. Jean retired from C&P to focus her time on her family, but still found time to serve as a substitute teacher in the public schools. After her children were grown, she worked as a certified home health aide for several years and enjoyed helping care for a number of people. But her favorite job was working for Ferry Farm Animal Clinic in Fredericksburg, Va.
Jean was an amazing mother to her children and grandma to her grand-children. She was a great friend to many. She had a gift for being able to look inside people and understand them and what they needed. Jean cared for many family members and helped many friends over her life. She was very selfless and giving. She was a faithful Christian who would do anything for her friends and family. She was a lifelong believer in Jesus Christ and her faith gave her strength.
Jean was loved very much by her family and friends and she will be deeply missed.
