She is proceeded in death by her parents Emma and John Varner (Arlington, VA) and her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Curtis Belile (Virginia Beach, VA)
She is survived by husband Harold Fitzgerald; her step-children Veronica Pyburn and Shawn (Debbie) Fitzgerald; her nieces and nephew, Sandy (Doug) Carroll, Bonnie Belile, Curt (Lenore) Belile and their children and grandchildren.
Jean graduated from Strayer University and retired from the government after working 20 years on Capitol Hill. Jean attended Fredericksburg United Methodist Church where she enjoyed participating in the prayer shawl and Bazaar groups. She enjoyed bowling and golf; and loved her cats and dogs. She also enjoyed watching PBS on Sunday evenings.
Jean loved her family and friends. She is remembered as warm and loving, always with a smile on her face.
A graveside service for Jean will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Mount Zion Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 1177 Mount Zion Road, Luray, VA 22835.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney Fund.
