Jean Macon Gibson

Jean Macon Strickland Gibson, age 89, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 13, 2022. She was born March 26, 1933 in Barboursville, Virginia to Macon and Elizabeth Strickland, the youngest addition of 5 children. She was married to Warren Dale Gibson in 1954 who preceded her in 2002. She had been a member of St Paul Methodist Church in Woodbridge and upon moving to Florida, attended Port Charlotte Methodist Church. As a young girl she loved going to her Grandmother’s house and participating in the “Barn” dancing where many family members would bring their instruments and play music on the weekends. She loved music and dancing and her dogs. She particularly liked country music but also had a love for southern Gospel music and old Hymns. She also loved going to the movies and would often sell coke bottles to get enough money to go to the movie theatre. As a teenager and young adult she loved to roller skate and would meet up with her girlfriends at the Alexandria Roller Skate Rink. She was a loving and caring person, quick to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need. She was a devoted wife and mother always attending school functions, baseball games, working concession stands and most of all loved the family vacations to Nags Head beach every year. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Kay Gibson Grimes of Stafford, Virginia and her son, Bradley Warren Gibson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and her grandchildren Sean Grimes of Richmond, Virginia, Channon Gibson of Whitesboro, Texas, Ryan Gibson of McKinney, Texas, Christina Ashley Gibson of Amsterdam, Holland and great grandson Dylan Gibson of Whitesboro, Texas. A visitation will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway (Rt 1), Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401 with a Celebration of Life service immediately following from 12:00 to 1:00PM. Burial will occur from there to Culpepper National Cemetery, 305 US Avenue, Culpeper, Virginia 22701.
