John Richard Prickett
20 October , 1947 – 1 May , 2019
John Richard Prickett, 71, of Fredericksburg passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. John was born October 20, 1947 at Camp John Hay, Baguio Mt. Province Philippines. He was proud to be from the baby boomer generation. Being raised all over the world as an Air Force child the experiences instilled the courage and inspiration to continue to explore the world when he was older. He was an avid traveler, and when he wasn’t physically traveling to new destinations he was dreaming up where he would like to go next. In June 1977, John was invited to a party by his sister, Elaine, where he met his future wife, Terry. They were married a year later, on January 6, 1979. Together they raised two daughters in Fredericksburg, all while running his own land development and construction business. Savvy, intelligent and creative were all attributes of his business sense. With their fair share of hard times and tragedies John maintained his strong faith to his family and to God. His faith, discovered later in life, led him to be a fervent disciple of Jesus. He was always eager to share his love for the Lord to anyone and everyone that was willing to listen. He treasured his family both near and far based on the example shown to him by his mother, Christine. He would have given a perfect stranger the shirt off his own back if he felt they needed it more than him. His benevolent nature led to the Lord bestowing on him countless blessings. However, he was quick to explain that he wasn’t blessed because he was so smart or so wonderful but it was because of the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Terry; his daughters, Alicia Prickett Rivas and Danielle Prickett Main; his sisters, JoAnna Doherty, Elaine Torres, and Mary Prickett; 6 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon C. Prickett, and his mother, Christine B. Prickett. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Fredericksburg Full Gospel Fellowship. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at Kidney.org. Online condolences may be sent at mullinsthompsonfredericksburg.com

I met John in 2008. He had built some brand new homes in the Charlotte area and a lender introduced us. I ended up selling his new homes and thus began our 11 year business relationship which quickly turned into a lasting friendship. Whenever John would come to the area to buy homes, our conversations revolved around his deep love for God and his desire to be a better person because of that love. We discussed tragedy I was dealing with in my family and things that John had gone through himself. He reminded me of my dad so much! John had a very commanding and charismatic style yet he was extremely generous and kind and I respected him tremendously! My own father died May 9th 2014 and now we have all lost a wonderful and amazing friend May 1st 2019. My husband Keith and our daughters, Sierra and Tauni have also grown to love and care about John not only from my stories but also from their own interactions with John! We are so sad for your family and we will never forget John and the impact he had on our lives!

One of the memories I remember the most was when we had a baptism at John's mother's house and my grandson was baptized! John, was always so diligent to make sure I got a tape (yes, that long ago! LOL) of the sermon as I ministered to the children on Sunday so I could always hear the Word of God too! I remember being in his car as a group of us drove to attended a CE in Tulsa at REMA, and because I talked and laughed (he laughed also) so much, he said he was going to put me on the hood of the car LOL! John was a good friend to Ron and I for years as we once attended the same church along with their daughters...many hours of prayer together. My heart hurts for his wife and family knowing how they will miss him, but we know we will be together again some day! Ron now has another friend to praise and dance before our Lord with him in heaven! Both are now completely healed and and whole full of His joy! Love and prayers for all!
