Lorraine E. Owen, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2022 with her loving family at her bedside.
Lorraine was the first of two daughters born to George and Annie E. McPherson on March 31, 1921 in Providence, Rhode Island. After high school, Lorraine attended Cushing Academy in Massachusetts and later pursued a career in fashion merchandising and retail. This explained her impeccable style throughout her life.
Lorraine married Raymond Owen in 1949. When Ray was stationed in Japan, Lorraine followed and there they adopted their only son, Charles Raymond Owen. After being stationed in Denver, Colorado and Wiesbaden, Germany, they settled in Alexandria, Virginia where Ray eventually retired from the United States Air Force.
Ray, Lorraine and Lorraine’s mother (who lived to be 107 years of age) moved to Lake of the Woods to be near their son and family where she enjoyed her family activities, clubs, and friend gatherings. After the passing of her mother and husband, Lorraine later resided at Chancellor’s Village .
She is predeceased by her mother Annie, husband Ray, son Charles, and sister Barbara. She left behind her daughter-in-law Debra Owen (Ken); granddaughter Andrea Heller (Andrew); grandson Devon Owen (Rachel); great-grandchildren: Aven,
Brock, Camden, and Charlie and numerous nephews and nieces.
A service and celebration of life is scheduled at 1 p.m., on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Chancellor’s Village (12100 Chancellor’s Village Lane, Fredericksburg, VA).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lorraine’s great granddaughter, Aven’s favorite charity, Nadia’s Hope Equine Rescue. www.nadiashopeequinerescue.org
