He was born on April 4, 1954, in Rockford, Illinois to the late Carl and Ruth Darlene (Whitmore) Smith.
Survivors include four children: Robert Smith, Jr., Barbara Jean Buckner, Michael Smith and Terry Smith; two brothers: James E. Smith and Doug Whitmore; two sisters: Carolyn Lloyd and Judy Hamilton; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Richland Baptist Church Cemetery, 2482 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
