Bernell Hogan

Bernell was born on August 5, 1922, in Salem, MO the daughter of Paul and Jessie (Gaines) Medley who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on April 12, 1941 in Salem, MO to Arthur Hogan Sr who preceded her in death on December 16, 1998. She retired from Westminster College in Fulton, MO as a secretary after working for over 25 years. In addition, she was the bookkeeper for her husband’s chainsaw, motorcycle, and camper business. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Fulton, MO where she enjoyed delivering flowers to the local nursing homes for the church.

Bernell was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends, working crossword puzzles and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. They recognized her as very hard to defeat while playing Scrabble and Checkers and cherish the memories of those times. Her family enjoyed her wonderful story telling abilities and she had many stories. Until her early 90’s she cheerfully provided rides to friends or family who couldn’t drive for doctor appointments. She was a tremendous role model for several generations with her kind, generous, and humble spirit.

Survivors include: her son, Steve Hogan (Karen) of Columbia, MO; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, Jared, Joshua, Anna, Faith, Leah Connor and Paul; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by her son, Arthur Hogan Jr; granddaughter, Leah Hogan; two sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, MO. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 3:30 pm at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem, MO.
