Clay was born on March 22, 1938 in Jefferson City, MO the son of John and Dorothy (Phelps) Warden who preceded him in death. In 1956 he joined the US Marines, where he served as a Gunnery Sergeant and weapons specialist. He served in the military for 20 years before retiring. Clay was married in May 1959 in Honolulu, HI to Doris K. who preceded him in death in 1988. He then was married in October 1989 in Fulton, MO to Joyce who preceded him in death in 2021. Clay loved to go hunting and fishing and spent a lot of time doing so. He was a huge animal lover and especially loved his dogs. Before Joyce’s passing, Clay and Joyce enjoyed traveling together and playing cards. Clay loved his family and spending time with them.
Survivors include: two sons, Bo Warden and Robert Warden (Marsha); two daughters, Gwen Stack and Veronica Bell (Denver); three stepsons, Jerry Martin, James Martin and Jimmy Fitzgerald; one stepdaughter, Edith Salmons; 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Frances Watson, Iva O’Neal and Lois Warden.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, MO. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with full military honors.
