

Elaine Miriam Long passed away at her home on January 13, 2018. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, January 19, 2018 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial will be at the Millersburg Cemetery.
Elaine was born on December 10, 1942, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the eldest child of Leon Russell Stickney, Sr. and Winona Rawson Stickney.
She was married to Gary Long on December 24, 1968, in Boulder, Colorado.
Elaine graduated from Litchfield High School, Litchfield, CT in 1960; received a B.S. degree from Central Connecticut State College in 1964; and a M.A. degree from the University of Colorado in 1968.
Mrs. Long began her teaching career in New Mexico. After obtaining her Master’s Degree, she continued teaching in Michigan before settling in Callaway County, MO. She was an elementary educator in the Millersburg Community for several years before transitioning to elementary schools in Fulton. Within the Fulton School District, she served 33 years as an elementary teacher and guidance counselor. In her successful teaching career, Mrs. Long worked tirelessly to educate generations of young minds.
Elaine was an active member of the Millersburg Christian Church where she served in many roles. Mrs. Long enjoyed membership in the Dixie Dames Club, the MillersCreek Community Club, and the Millersburg Book Club. She was an avid animal lover dedicating many hours a day to nurturing numerous animals, especially cats, birds, and her beloved Bernie, a Bernese Mountain dog.
Mrs. Long will be sadly missed and loving remembered by her two sons: Wayne Long (Casey) of Broadlands, IL, and Bruce Long (Sabrina) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren: Allie and Landon Long of Birmingham, AL; brother Leon Stickney, Jr. (Carol) of Goshen, CT; aunt Evelyn King of Woodbury, CT; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and uncle Lee King. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Millersburg Christian Church.
