Gary was born June 9, 1944, in Steedman, Missouri to Roy and Vara Elizabeth (Holland) Althiser. He would graduate with the Fulton High School Class of 1962.
Survivors include his wife of 57yrs, Linda (Cooper) Althiser, originally from Wrigley, Kentucky; a sister, Lois (Ross) Richardson of Aurora, Colorado; a surrogate son, Darrel (Manda) Wilmsmeyer and their children, Laci and Levi all of Fulton, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Charles Cooper of Fulton, Missouri; sister-in-law, Nellie Joe (Tommy) Whitt of Fulton, Missouri; ten nephews; eight nieces; and a life long friend, Ray Smart and his daughter, Samantha (Ray) Dulk, both of Burbank, California.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Illa (Hook) Althiser; great niece, Lindsey (Althiser) Sharp.
Gary served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 4th Battalion 30th Infantry as a mortar artillery operator during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Gary earned the Sharpshooter (Rifle) and Good Conduct Medals.
He was the owner and manager of Kingdom Feed Service for 25 years, retiring in 2012.
Gary also enjoyed traveling the Country and tolerated cruises with Linda. Gathering with family and friends was also a source of enjoyment for him.
He was a member of the Callaway Historical Society and a lifetime member of the Fulton, Missouri VFW Post 2657.
In the lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Fulton VFW Post 2657 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Debo Funeral Home, (833 Court Street, Fulton, MO 65251), on April 17, 2026, 11 AM, followed by a Committal with Military Honors at Callaway Memorial Gardens, (1700 US Business Highway 54 South, Fulton, MO 65251). Visitation and luncheon will be held at the VFW Post 2657, (505 Collier Ln, Fulton, MO 65251), from 12-3 PM.
Pallbearers will be Darrel Wilmsmeyer, with honorary pallbearers Danny Althiser and Tim Richardson.
