Janet Ida Mae Nelson

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 6 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Jan was born March 19, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward and Dorothy Davis Buenemann, Sr. who preceded her in death. She was married in Kansas City, Missouri to R.D. Nelson and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Jan worked for over twenty years at Cecil’s Restaurant in Fulton. She then managed the restaurant at the Fulton Country Club before running the Fountain at Saults Drug Store where she served her homemade soup and pies. Janet then worked for several years at Wal-Mart in Fulton before her retirement at age 80.

Jan enjoyed crafts and she loved to read. She spent many hours at the library and always had several books nearby that she was reading. She often volunteered at schools and nursing homes, reading some of her favorite stories.

She was a great cook and many will remember how she often delivered her homemade pies to her friends in the community.

Jan is survived by daughters, Dorothy Nelson of Quincy, Illinois, Kathy (David) Garrett of Fulton and Karla (Joe) Nichols of Fulton; sons, Rowan (Vicky) Nelson of Fulton and Matthew (Nancy) Nelson of Oregon; sister, Joanne McDonald of New Mexico; grandchildren, April Guse’, Chris Garrett, Heather Schulte, Joe Nichols, Jr., Rowan Nelson III, Briana Nelson, Nathaniel Nelson, Mallory Nelson and Benjamin Nelson along with nine great-great-grandchildren, Kelley, Aaron, Brandon, Brooke, Bryce, Logan, Caden, Asher and Finley.

She was also preceded in death by brothers, Edward Buenemann, Jr. and Larry Buenemann; sisters, Virginia Besancenez and Edna Beas and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose.
