He was born February 24, 1933 in Fulton, MO the son of the late Elvin and Bessie (Hubbard) Richmond who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on May 29, 1955 in Fulton, MO to Barbara (Cason) Richmond who preceded him in death in 2006 after 50 years of marriage. To that union was three children born, Lavore Richmond Jr, Kevin Richmond and Gloria Richmond. In September 2020, he was united in marriage to Alice (Galbreath) Richmond.
Lavore joined St James Methodist Church at a very young age; he was a member of the Men’s Methodist Choir. He attended Lincoln Lab in Jefferson City, MO. He was a veteran of the US Army from 1953 - 1955. He took pride in a volunteer as a special policeman from 1967 to indefinitely. He was one of the first African Americans to serve on the City Council of Fulton and one of the first African American Boy Scout Leaders of Troop #53. He worked at Harbison Walker Refractories for 40 years, retiring in 1983. Lavore was a devoted and very good family man, father, husband and a true friend. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and picking greens. Everyone that he came in contact with, he would always have a tall, tall tale to tell you and make you laugh.
Survived by his wife, Alice and his three children; Lavore Richmond Jr (Susanne), Kevin Richmond (Rayna) and Gloria Richmond (Tracy Edwards); three grandchildren, Kyla James-Richmond, Kia Johnson and Grant Lavore Richmond; one great granddaughter; Deony James; one great grandson, Colton Popp; five sisters-in-law, Lois Ramsey, Joyce Lee, Doris Galbreath, Marcha Collier (Ray) and Kim Galbreath; two brothers-in-law, Orville Galbreath Jr (Kim) and Jeff Galbreath (Charlotte); special friends, Chubby, Carolyn and Larry Underwood and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Billy Taylor; three brothers, Nathan Richmond Sr, Lewis Richmond and James Agee.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, MO. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. David Hartsfield officiating. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Repast will follow at Guiding Light Church.
