
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Amy McDill Rutledge, 87, who passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014. A private service will follow. Rev. Harvey Beck will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Rutledge was born in Gadsden to Edd and Grace McDill. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1944 and attended The Alabama College for Women, now the University of Montevallo. She married Roy Johnson Rutledge in 1948. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2002.
Mrs. Rutledge attended Twelfth Street Baptist Church until her marriage. She has been a member of Gadsden First United Methodist Church for 64 years. She was a past member of several civic and social organizations, including the Gadsden Service Guild and Bal d’ Or. For over 50 years she enjoyed playing Mah Jongg on Mondays with her friends. She looked forward to her Friday “lunch bunch” outings.
Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death her parents, Edd and Grace McDill; husband, Roy Johnson Rutledge; brother, Dr. Edward L. McDill; and sister-in-law, Gail Rutledge Culver.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Rutledge Midgley; son-in-law, Shepard Midgley; son, Randall Rutledge; sister-in-law, Johanna McDill; several nieces; and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center, 4200 Brooke Ave., Gadsden, AL 35904; or MANNA, PO Box 1623, Gadsden, AL 35902.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sandra Carpenter and staff, Alacare Hospice and nurses Kelley and Suzanne, Home Instead staff, Nancy Loman, and Susan Minton for the excellent care provided to our mother.
