Funeral Service for Ray Bullock, 85, of Gadsden, will be at 4pm, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Gadsden. Rev. Harvey Beck will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will be directing.
Ray attended Jacksonville State University, where he met his wife of 62 years. He was a coach of many little league and pee-wee sports teams as well as a football and basketball coach at Litchfield. He impacted many lives through his coaching and had a passion for helping people. After coaching, he was the Director of Parks and Recreations for the City of Gadsden. While working for the City of Gadsden, he developed many youth programs and civic activities including the vision for and development of Noccalula Falls Park and Pioneer Home Stead. After his work with the city, he became the Director of Parks for the State of Alabama. He also served as the softball director for the State of Alabama, which led to his induction to the Softball Hall of Fame. He was an active member of the Jaycees and served a term as the President of the Gadsden chapter. He was also recognized as the State of Alabama Jaycee of the Year for his contributions. He last served the Assistant Superintendent of the Etowah County School System and later as the the Superintendent where he retired. Ray was an avid sportsman and conservationist who loved his wife, grandchildren, and the numerous pets.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents James Tollie and Annie Mae Bullock, mother and father-in-law “Bud” and Ruth Knowles, and his aunt Gussie Williams.
He is survived by his wife Martha Scott Bullock; children Tracye (Joe) Jones, Alicia (David) Dowling, Ray (Tonja) Bullock; grandchildren Bryant Jones, Virginia and Matthew Bullock; brothers and sisters Annette (Don) Gill, Janie (Billy) Daugherty, Tom (Peggy) Bullock, and Sue Bowman; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Tom Bullock, Joe Jones, David Dowling, Bryant Jones, Matthew Bullock, and Mike Mckinney.
The family will be accepting flowers but memorials may also be made to First United Methodist Church of Gadsden.
