

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Barbara Thompson Spears, age 80, of Brandon, FL, who passed away Monday, August 1, 2016. Rev. Bob Thornton, Rev. Bill Reed, Rev, Walter Thweat, and Rev. Bill Drummons will officiate. Burial will be at Williams-Southside Memorial Park. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Barbara Ann Thompson Spears was born in Opelika, Alabama and lived most of her life in Alabama with brief years in Georgia and Texas. Barbara loved her Lord Jesus and she loved people. She touched many lives through her many years of teaching kindergarten and first grade. She helped to start the kindergarten at 12th Street Baptist Church and then moved to Glencoe Elementary where she taught for almost 20 years. She ministered alongside her husband, Rev. Kenneth C. Spears while he was living – teaching Sunday School and serving in a variety of church positions in several churches in Etowah County. She was most recently a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Spears, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Carol Spears, Janet Reed (Barclay), and Ken C. Spears; grandchildren, Justin Reed, Brandon Reed, Jason Reed, Joshua Spears, and Emma Spears; and brother, Tommy Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Trey Barnes, Gary Caldwell, Brad Crowe, Lamar Pruitt, Tommy Robertson, Randy Smith, Edmond Steapleton, and Chris Washburn.
Honorary pallbearers are Justin Reed, Brandon Reed, Jason Reed, Joshua Spears, Emma Spears, EBA Ladies Bible Study Group, and Tyler Barnes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to The Kenneth C. Spears Chaplaincy Fund, C/O Etowah Baptist Assn., P.O. Box 490, Gadsden, AL 35902. This fund assists with the chaplaincy program at Gadsden Regional Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
