Bob was born November 9, 1936 to the late Otto Edward and Madge Eva Powell. He grew up running the streets of East Gadsden with his friends and graduated from Gadsden High School in 1956. After graduation he attended Jacksonville State University where he learned that college was not a place he liked so he joined the Army and served stateside for 2 years. Upon returning to Gadsden he took a job building tires at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber plant where he worked faithfully for 37 years. Bob was a member of the Glencoe Masonic Lodge #236.
Bob was a kind and generous man who loved Jesus and his family. He was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and later at East Gadsden Baptist Church. Bob loved to fish and though his water crafts were often unreliable he loved being on the water. He had a book collection that told him how to repair anything and he had the life skills and tools to put all that information to good use. He was happiest when he was tinkering around in his workshop, planning and growing his garden and spending time with his friends and family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and his son Donald Edward. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jacquelyn Cox, his daughter Deborah McCombs (Curtis), his grandson David, and daughter in law Debbie Williams.
A visitation for Bob will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901, followed by Masonic Rites at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Etowah Baptist Mission Center or Manna of Gadsden where Bob spent many hours volunteering.
