Bobbie Jean was born on May 13, 1940, and spent her life devoted to what mattered most to her—family. Her greatest dream was to have a large family, and she poured her heart into caring for them. Later in life, she earned her paralegal degree and worked for several attorneys but ultimately returned to her true calling as a loving housewife, mother, and nanny. She was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord and brought warmth, joy, and light to everyone she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Bobby Joe Winningham; her parents, Bob and Katie Mae Chalfant; her grandparents, Ralph and Mamie Chalfant (Mamo and Papa); her mother-in-law, Minnie Ruth Winningham; her brothers, Wayne and Rickey; and her son-in-law, Larry Snell.
She is survived by her loving children, Katie Snell, Karen (Melton) Ledbetter, Buster (Patricia) Winningham, Beth (Kevin) Payne, Kathy (Chris) Thompson, and Joey (Amanda) Winningham. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ladies of Grace Sunday School Class at Riverbend Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class at McEntyre Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Riverview CCU nurses and staff and ACG Hospice, with special thanks to Mason Armstrong for his compassionate care.
Bobbie Jean’s legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion to family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her impact will live on in the lives she touched.
