

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. Cecil D. “Jack” Kirby Jr., 76, Gadsden, who passed away Friday, November 12, 2010. Revs. Ernest Dean and David Roberts will officiate with burial at Rainbow Memorial Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Jack was of the Baptist faith. He graduated High School from Dunn, North Carolina in 1952 then graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelors science degree in 1956. He served in U.S. Army Special Operations during the Korea War. Serving as Deputy Director for Sexually Transmitted Disease Division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 38 years. Retiring in 1994 he became the Deputy Director of Georgia State Department of Public Health until 2002.
Jack is preceded in death by his father, Cecil D. Kirby Sr. and mother, Elsie May Kirby.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lynnette Kirby; daughter, Cynthia Kirby-Clark; son, Kenneth Kirby; step son, Stephen Huntwork; step daughter, Beverly Stafford; step grandchildren, Jennie Cottrell, Christine Bartley, Jacqueline Stafford, Nash Stafford, Katherine Grace Stafford; step great grandchildren, Elizabeth Cottrell, Lydia Cottrell, Hayden Roberts, Allison Roberts; sisters, Peggy Pope, Barbara Stevenson, Janet Bass; step brother, Rev. Ernest Dean; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will include; Randy Stafford, Nash Stafford, David Pinkston, Mitch Allen, Al Harry, and Duane East.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Lawley Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate service and excellent service from the staff at McGuffy’s Health Care.
The family will receive friends at Collier-Butler Monday from 10:30 until time of service.
