Morris was born in Ragland, Alabama on May 22, 1942. He graduated from Ragland High School in 1960 where he was the captain of his Purple Devil football team. His team was undefeated and was number one in the state. He also met the love of his life, Ponda, during that time. After graduation he worked for the State Highway Department. On January 5,1964 he had the privilege of marrying Ponda. She encouraged him to attend college. He enrolled in Jacksonville State University while working at Sears, Bob Green’s service station, Republic Steel, and Goodyear. He graduated in May of 1969 with a degree in finance and business administration. He was hired in the management training program at Goodyear. A year later, his friend, Ragan Godfrey, told him of an opening at 1st City National Bank. After that bank sold, the owner J.D.Johns bought the Bank of Glencoe. Morris was hired and started a new venture as the vice-president in charge of general operations. His love for cars took off in the 70s. He was instrumental in forming the Corvette Club in Etowah County. He got into sports cars and participated in auto crosses and many car shows throughout his life. In 1979 he decided to leave the banking world and partnered with Morris Nelson in the camping business. Liggan RV Center was established in 1981. He enjoyed the relaxed style of life camping offered and always stated “you know who slept in your bed last night”. He spent 38 years in the RV business, retiring in 2017. When Morris wasn’t working, his biggest joy was spending time with his children and four grandchildren, teaching them the value of family, work, and driving a stick shift. He was so proud of them and loved to share stories about them. Morris’s faith and love for his Lord and Savior was evident throughout his life. Ken Gourlay was instrumental in his walk with Christ while a member at Grace Bible Church. Until his death he continued to thank the Lord for his blessed life.
