

Darrell Kenneth Yarnell Sr. of Gadsden, Alabama went to heaven on the afternoon of August 11, 2022. He was 77 years old. Darrell was survived by his wife Bonnie; sons Darrell Jr. (Lori) Andy (Jenn) and grandchildren Bo, Payton and Afton.
Darrell was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania on November 5th, 1944. He moved to Wilmington, Delaware where he met Bonnie, his wife of 50 years. They were married on May 13, 1972.
Darrell worked as a chemist for DuPont for 20 years. At almost 40 years old he decided on a second career as an RN where he served as a hospice nurse for 20 years as well.
Darrell and Bonnie raised their two sons in Newark, Delaware where Darrell began his lifelong dedication to Philadelphia sports fandom. They then moved to New Port Richey Florida and while living there planned many Disney vacations where so many unforgettable family memories were made. They lived there for close to 20 years before moving to Gadsden, Alabama where Darrell retired.
Darrell stayed quite busy throughout his retirement and had numerous hobbies. He had an extensive vegetable garden outdoors and an herb garden indoors. He was an excellent chef and had perfected several Thai dishes. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Phillies while sitting on the porch with Bonnie. His favorite hobby was attending any events that had to do with his grandchildren (sports, theater, orchestra, graduations).
He was a loving, gentle and patient man. He was slow to anger and rarely lost his temper. Darrell loved his family with all his heart and dedicated his life to putting others first; especially his wife and soulmate Bonnie. He will be terribly missed and was well loved by anyone that met met him.
Visitation will be Monday, August 15th from 4:30-5:30 PM at Gadsden First Methodist. followed by a Celebration of Life at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be given to Gadsden First Methodist Church.
