

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Ray Mitchell Sr., age 74, of Gadsden, Alabama, who left us on March 31, 2025. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who lived a life full of passion, joy, and adventure.
Born to Willard Mitchell and Agnes Parker on April 7th,1950, in Gadsden, Donald grew up with a love for life that never wavered. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Debbie Mitchell, his children Tom, Bridgett, and Lisa, his great-grandchild Tidus, as well as his siblings Faye, Martha, Jane, Buddy, and Elouise.
Donald was known for his many talents and interests. He had a keen mind for drafting and woodworking, often crafting pieces that reflected both his creativity and his skill. His love for sci-fi sparked countless imaginative conversations, while his enthusiasm for bingo, karaoke, and dancing brought joy to many. Donald’s most cherished moments, however, were the countless adventures he shared with his children and grandchildren, always seeking to create lasting memories.
He is survived by his children "Big" Ray, Chris, Rebecca, Jason, LaDonna, Michell, Shawn, Ray, and Rachel, who carry his legacy forward with love. Donald was a proud grandfather to CJ, Shay, Logan, Nathan, Elizabeth, Jonas, Megan, Devin, Isabell, Anastacia, Dayonna, KK, Lily, Cory, Liam, and SirLuciano, as well as a great-grandfather to 13. He is also survived by his brother Shorty, who was a lifelong companion and friend.
Donald’s life was filled with simple pleasures that he truly appreciated. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Waffle House for the coffee that fueled his mornings, Night Owl for the dancing that brightened his nights, and most importantly, God for the women who loved him throughout his life.
Donald Ray Mitchell Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He lived with a vibrant spirit and a generosity of heart that made him unforgettable. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched.
A visitation for Donald will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, Alabama 35901, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be CJ, Shay, Logan, Nathan, Jonas, and Joseph.
