Dorothy Louise Pippin, better known as Dot to those she befriended, passed away on January 25 at her home in Gadsden, Alabama. Though a resident of Gadsden since 1965, Dot was born and raised in Samson, Alabama. In addition to graduating high school, Samson is where she met her husband Walter, whom she wed in 1954. Walter and Dot moved to Gadsden to work for family at Pippin Cleaners, which they eventually bought and managed together. Dot worked at Pippin Cleaners for 15 years. She also spent 15 years as a greeter/clerk at Walmart, brightening the days of many with that infectious smile of hers that rarely left her face. She loved playing the piano, attending church, and bragging on how amazing her children and grandchildren were. She will be remembered for her warm hugs, kind eyes, and so much more.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter Franklin Pippin and grandson Clay Arledge. She was survived by her son Jerry Pippin (Myra) and daughter Deborah Pippin; her granddaughters Amy Pippin and Ashley Hayami (Grant); her great-grandson Kyler Hopper; her great-great-granddaughters Jade and Emerald Hopper.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice, especially Bridgette, Tyler, and Bob, for their thoughtful service and tender care during her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Also, many thanks to her Sunday school class at First Baptist of Gadsden, of which she was a long-time member, for all the prayers and cards received on her behalf.
Visitation will be January 30 at Collier Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden at 4pm, with funeral at 5pm.
A graveside service for Dorothy will be held Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Samson, Alabama.
