
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at White Springs Baptist Church in Rainbow City for Mrs. Erlene Riddle Gilbert, 79, of Rainbow City. Revs. Vince Whittington, Tommy Crocker and Joe Lancaster will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Gilbert died peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2012, in Groveoak, Alabama. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing services.
Mrs. Gilbert was born September 5, 1933, in Rome, Georgia, to Broughton and Imogene Campbell. She lived all of her life in Etowah County in the Gadsden, Rainbow City area. On June 1, 1951, she married the love of her life, Richard Yeats Gilbert, at Friendship Baptist Church in Rainbow City. Mrs. Gilbert was a graduate of Etowah High School, and was a member of White Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her Daughters, Cynthia Gilbert Ramseur (George), of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Carolyn Sue Gilbert, of Groveoak, Alabama; Grandson, George Gilbert Ramseur, of Annandale-on-Hudson, New York; Granddaughter, Carolyn Ruth Ramseur, of Sewanee, Tennessee; and brothers, James (Judy) Riddle, of Anniston, and Luther (Barbara Ann) Riddle, of Rainbow City.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 61 years, Richard (Clyde) Yeats Gilbert; her parents, Broughton and Imogene Riddle; and her sister, Ann Riddle Page.
Pallbearers will be Gilbert Ramseur, George Ramseur, Gene Cossey, Wilber Smith, James Riddle, and Joe Lancaster. Honorary pallbearers will be her brother, Luther Riddle.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 4-6 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services in Gadsden and will lie-in-state Monday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the church.
