

Frances Gunter Morrison, 85, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Funeral services honoring and celebrating her life will be held at Collier Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Gadsden at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3. Visitation will be at Collier Butler on Monday, October 2 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Reverend Larry Fuhrman and Dr. Rick Lance will conduct the service with burial to follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Gadsden.
Frances was born and raised in Piedmont, Alabama. Upon finishing high school, she attended Jacksonville State University, majoring in Math Education. It was at JSU where she met Troy Morrison, also a student at the time, and they married in 1952. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage together. After graduation from JSU, Frances served as a math teacher for over 25 years, with the majority of that time spent at Etowah High School.
Mrs. Morrison was preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha (Curtis) Morrison Burttram. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Troy L. Morrison; son, Mark (Anniece) Morrison; five grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Burttram, Megan (Jordan) Reese, Lindsey (Allen) Beck, Mallory (Jordan) Means, and Meredith Morrison; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Burttram, Lilly Rose Reese, Jeffery Beck, and Jackson Reese; brother, Jerry Gunter; special caregiver, Patsi Hollingsworth; and many other extended family and friends.
Frances will long be remembered for her service to the Alabama Baptist State Convention and 12thStreet Baptist Church, where Dr. Morrison served as Executive Director (1990-2000) and Pastor from (1968 - 1985) and where they both still serve as faithful members to this day. She had a deep love for education, and would fondly talk about the students that she had the privilege to teach.
Pallbearers for the funeral services will be Matthew Burttram, Allen Beck, Jason Reese, Jordan Means, Wayne Eads, and Randy Smith. Flowers will be accepted. Donations in her memory can be made to 12th Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
