She was the daughter of John Alfred and Nora Clayton Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Neal Sturkie; and her daughter, Lenora Elizabeth Carter.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Sturkie Folk and her husband, Kenneth Steedly Folk Jr.; grandchildren, Phillip Randolph Carter Jr., John Clayton Carter, Anita Frances Hulsey and Julia Folk Zimmerman; and great-grandchildren, Kasey Elizabeth Carter, Alexandra Faith Hulsey and Carleigh Elaine Carter.
