
Gene W. Mackey, Alabama City, AL, passed away peacefully at his home on September 14, 2016. He was 78 years old. The family will receive visitors at Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Saturday, September 17, 1 – 3pm. Graveside rites will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens at 3:30. The Reverends David Chandler and Jim Bentley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Food Ministries of Gadsden Vineyard Church.
Gene was retired from Gulf States Steel where he worked as an electrician for more than 40 years. He was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed playing the guitar. The greatest joy of his life was the care and company of his family.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Jerrie Ann Mackey, his parents, William and Alma Mackey, brothers W.J. Mackey, David Mackey, Sr., sister-in-law, Virginia Mackey and special nephew David (Susan) Mackey, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Julie (Bruce) Cornutt, son Randy (Debbie) Mackey, grandson Blake (Krystal) Mackey, granddaughters Maranada Mackey and Tanner Adams, great-granddaughter Alivia Mackey, sister Betty (Sentell) Killingsworth, sister-in-law Tempie Mackey, step-granddaughters Haley (Rai) Avery and Emily (Ben) Ingram and their children.
