Gregory Mark Carroll

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Greg Carroll, 70, at his home in Gadsden, AL. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July, 17, 2025 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Tommy Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.

Born and raised in Gadsden, Greg graduated from Gadsden High School in 1972. From there, he worked with the Etowah County Rescue Squad, many years at Goodyear, and then began a career in law enforcement, which included 23 years at the Rainbow City Police Department, where he would retire in 2016 as the Chief of Police.

Greg was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains. He loved the Auburn Tigers, watching movies, especially John Wayne westerns, a well-manicured lawn, and his many dogs and cats over the years. He had a great sense of humor and if he ever picked on you then he probably considered you a friend.

He is survived by Joyce Carroll, his wife of 14 years, his son Adam (Emily) Carroll, daughters Leigh (Dathan) Phillips, Brittany (Stephen) Loyd, and Melissa (fiancé Scotty) Shortnacy. He will also be forever missed by his loved and cherished grandchildren Easton, Maddox, Piper, Thea, Harrison, Grayson, Miles, Millie, Rebeka, and Gabe, who all knew him as "Chief", brother Gary M. (Debbie) Carroll, special cousin who was more like a sister, Alison Bowling, and a host of other cousins, aunts, uncles, and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Carroll, parents, J.R. and Mavis Carroll, special aunt Faye Brewer, and in-laws, Lilburn and Mackie Stevens.

Pallbearers will be Joe Morgan, Jerry Foster, Charles Clifton, Chase Jenkins, Allan Ragan, and Danny Sims.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Tammy and Gentiva Hospice for their compassion, care, and support during this time.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
