James David Goodwin Jr.

Dr. James David Goodwin, Jr. died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in Gadsden, at the age of 81. He was born in Fairfield, AL on August 4, 1932. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lenior-Rhyne College in North Carolina. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from University of Alabama, School of Dentisty in Birmingham, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Army Reserves as a Colonel. He practiced Dentistry for 40 years.

Rev. Mat Alexander, Rev. Larry Fuhrman, and Dr. Goodwin’s brother, Dr. Gerald Goodwin will officiate. Private family only entombment will be at Forrest Mausoleum. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.

Dr. Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. James David Goodwin, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Bettye Gilbreath Goodwin; daughter, Karen Goodwin Howard, Russell Alan Howard; son, James David Goodwin, III, Wendy Webb Goodwin; son, Dr. Robert Scott Goodwin; grandchildren: James Goodwin Howard, Robert Rushton Howard, Sara Elizabeth Goodwin, Mary Reid Goodwin, and Anna Clare Goodwin; brother, Dr. Gerald Chapman Goodwin, Anne.

The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Gadsden at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 1, 2014. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:30 am. Entombment will be at Forrest Mausoleum for family.

Pallbearers are Dr. Ted Jones, Dr. Lucian Newman, Joe Copeland, Don Maddox, Bryan Ayers, Wayne Nesbitt, James Stivender, and Bob Crabtree.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Gadsden.
