John was born in Gadsden in 1936 and lived here until his life journey around the world began in 1968. This incredible journey around this great nation and the world was foundational to the development of the man we all know and loved……the most gracious, loving, and caring husband, father, brother, son, Poppa and friend. After 43 years away from the town he truly loved, John and Connie returned to Gadsden in 2015.
John was a graduate of Gadsden High School in 1954. John received his Bachelors Degree from Auburn University in 1968. After graduating from Auburn, John’s professional journey was off and running with his first move from home taking him to Topeka, Kansas as a production manager for Goodyear Tire and Rubber. Kansas was a brief stop for John and over the course of the next 30 years, John moved to Vermont, Texas, England, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. His professional accomplishments were nothing short of amazing as he started his professional life on the shop floor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Gadsden and retired from Chrysler Corporation as a senior executive.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Big Oak Ranch for Boys and Girls or The E.A.G.L.E.S. Program at Auburn University.
John was an exceptional man who never met a stranger. There were six things in life John unequivocally loved from the bottom of his heart……God, Connie, his family, his friends, Auburn University and Gadsden, Alabama. His love of people and generosity towards others, one could argue, were his most endearing traits. He loved helping people no matter if he knew you or not. He cared about his community. He just cared.
Our hearts are broken for our sudden loss, but behind this curtain of pain there is incredible joy and memories that will soon emerge and live on in our hearts forever.
