
Funeral services will be 12:30 Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Johnny C. Horton, 76, who passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013. Rev. Robert Thornton, Rev. David Carroll, and Rev. Russell Amos will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Horton was born April 18, 1937. He was a lifetime resident of Etowah County and a longtime member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He was retired from Sears after 35 years of service. He had Type I Diabetes for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Georgia Horton; brothers: H.B. Horton, and James Horton; sister, Dorothy Hare.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Horton; 8 nieces: Sandra (Harry) Smith, Catherine (Ken) Pennington, Jean (Tom) Russell, Darlene Guffey, Theresa (Harold) Waddell, Brenda (O.B.) Works, Karen (Steve) Smith, and Cathy B. Gamble; 4 nephews: Robert (Melba) Hare, Wayne Hare, Ray Hare, and Larry Bean; sister-in-law, Alice (Nathan) Bean.
Pallbearers will be: Tom Russell, O.B. Works, Harold Waddell, Dennis Pate, Robert Hare, Greg Cash, Dalton Wester, Larry Bean, and John J. Gamble.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Robert Chadband, Dr. A.L. Ennis, Roy Glenn, Wayne Hare, DaVita Dialysis staff, Alacare Hospice, Joe Hall and Gene Conklin.
The family requests no flowers, memorials may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:30 Saturday prior to the service.
