Margaret Griffin Johns

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Gadsden for Margaret Griffin Johns, 95 of Gadsden, who passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Rev. Harvey Beck will officiate. Entombment will be at Crestwood Mausoleum. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.

Mrs. Johns was born in Etowah County and was one of ten children. She was appointed by Gov. Lurleen Wallace to the Alabama Education Study Commission and was very active in Gadsden City Schools PTA. Mrs. Johns was a member of Gadsden Country Club Ladies Golf Association and the Antiquarian Society of Gadsden. She was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She enjoyed Duplicate Bridge and was a member of several Duplicate Bridge Clubs including, Coosa Duplicate Bridge Club, Womens Club Duplicated Bridge Club.

Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Johns; daughter, Susan Johns Davis; and parents, Henry Cleveland and Mary Louella Griffin.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Gary) Smith; son, Johnny (Nancy) Johns; grandchildren, Meg Powell, Randy (Julie) Smith, Beth (Jim) Ferguson, Brad (Helen) Smith, Alice Johns Walton, Dixon Johns, and Anna Johns; great-grandchildren, Randy Smith III, Mitchell (Morgan) Cameron, Jordan (Steven) Henson, Michael (Erin) Clayton, Mary Alice Clayton, Grace Walton, Adam Walton, Margaret Walton, Hoke Jackson Smith II, Sara Lane Smith, Nick Smith, Jamie (Brady) Smith, and Jody Ferguson; 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lt. Col. Ret. Bill (Violet) Griffin; and sisters, Dot (Tom) Taylor, and Claudine Henderson.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family requests no flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Gadsden or to the Boys Club of Northeast Alabama.
