Ricky Joe “Papadoc” Works, age 67, of Lebanon, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence. Born and raised in Attalla, Alabama, Ricky lived a full life centered on family, faith, and hard work.
Ricky was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He spent over 30 years working in construction, a career he took great pride in. Outside of work, he found joy in the simple things—especially making pancakes for his grandchildren, listening to the blues, and spending time with those he loved. He attended Etowah High School in Attalla, Alabama, and recently rededicated his life to Christ, a decision that brought him great peace.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Lamar Works; his mother, Mable Florine Works; his brothers, James Hopkins, Leonard Works, and Jerry Works; and his sister, Sarah Hopkins.
Ricky leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Evelyn Works; his sister, Sybile Howard; his children, Derek (Tanisha) Payne, Masceo (Olivia) Fenn, Santwan Fenn, Breanca (Rashad) Fenn-Seay, Ricky (Jessica) Fenn, and Tracy Payne; and his goddaughter, Shena Foroutan. He was a proud grandfather of 20, great-grandfather of 15, and great-great-grandfather of 1. His grandchildren include Brittany, Tykyrah, Alex, Rashad Jr., Laronteze, Heaven, Laderrick, Masceo Jr., Ladereka, Aleegan, Tamont, Makenzie, Ka’mya, Breonna, Mason, Tygan, Levi, Kanaan, August, and Titan. He was also loved by a host of nieces and nephews.
Ricky shared a special bond with his close friends, Darryl Walker, Lisa Billingsley, and Reggie Humes.
A Letter from His Wife, Evelyn:
“Dear Ricky, when I met you, we grew together in love and happiness. Together we raised five beautiful children and our grandchildren as well. We created a strong, loving family. I will cherish the memories we shared, and now it’s time for you to rest. I will always love you.”
A Message from His Granddaughter, Kitty:
Inspired by The Invisible String by Patrice Karst:
“Love connects us always. No matter where we are, there is an invisible, unbreakable string made of love that stretches from heart to heart, keeping us close to the people we care about. I love you, Papa, and I will truly miss you.”
