Mrs. Byrd was a native of Gadsden. She was a graduate of Gadsden High School and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church, where she taught mission friends, G.A.'s, Vacation Bible School, and was an active member of the choir. She was a leader for the Brownie's, Girl Scouts, and took part in the Women Jaycees. Mrs. Byrd, along with her husband, owned and operated Byrd Lock & Key in Gadsden.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Johnny P. Byrd; parents, Ronald P. Bishop and Frances W. Bishop; and brother, Carl Wayne Bishop.
Survivors include her daughters, Beth Byrd Grimes (Kevin), Centre, AL, Christian Byrd (Tim Stonecypher), Gadsden, AL, Cindy Byrd Blake (Tim), Hoover, AL; grandchildren, Hudson and Preston Grimes, Centre, AL, Gabby Kourmoulis, Gadsden, AL, Timothy Blake, Indianapolis, IN, Laura Blake Ballew (Wesley), Atlanta, GA, Caroline Blake, Atlanta, GA; and great grandchild, Lucas Ballew, Atlanta, GA.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Gadsden Regional Medical Center ER dept., Julie, R.N., staff of MICU, Director Jessica, R.N., and Amy, R.N., all of whom made our last moments with mom peaceful. We are forever grateful.
