Susan Marlene Acker Womack, age 56, of Rainbow City, AL, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, joy, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Susan graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1997 and dedicated her professional life to accounting. For the past 21 years, she served faithfully as the Assistant Controller at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, where she was deeply respected by her colleagues.
Outside of work, Susan cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, whom she adored and loved to spoil. Her greatest joy was found in being “Gigi” to Hensley and Cohen Lancaster — and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her granddaughter, Marley Jo Claire Lancaster, who will carry on her name and spirit.
An avid runner, Susan loved hitting the trails and participating in 5Ks and half-marathons with her husband and friends. Her favorite place to vacation was the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, a place that brought her peace and happiness. Susan lived life to the fullest — pouring love into her family, friendships, and every mile she ran.
She was preceded in death by her biological mother, Marlene Brothers, and her father, Albert Alfonso Acker.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Eric Womack; daughter Savannah (Jeff) Lancaster; son Ethan Womack; grandchildren Hensley and Cohen Lancaster; mother Gail Acker; brother Andrew (Mandy) Acker; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A visitation for Susan will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the funeral home. Susan will lie in state one hour prior to her service on Saturday.
In honor of Susan’s lifelong strength and courage in living with Type 1 diabetes since childhood, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a diabetes foundation of your choice.
