Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Bellevue Baptist Church for W. L. “Bob” Moman, of Hokes, Bluff, who peacefully went home to be with his Lord, seated in his chair, at home, on Monday, August 29, 2016. Bob lived a full, satisfying and productive life of 92 years. Rev. Roger Graham and Rev. Charles Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery, however there will be no graveside services. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct.
Bob’s passions were his wife of 72 years, Juantita, his Lord, his daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and neighbors. He was also, passionate about gardening, flying and singing with the Gadsden Ambassadors Quartet, who he sang with for over thirty years.
Bob graduated from Susan Moore High School where he sang in his first quartet. He attended LaGrange College for a while before transferring to Gadsden School of Trades, where he took engine mechanics.
With the outbreak of World War II, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps, where he was trained as a mechanic and flight engineer on B-24 and B-17 bombers. He was stationed at Brookly Filed, Mobile, preparing bombers to be sent to England.
After discharge from the Air Corps he stayed at Brookly as a civilian crew chief.
At wars end, he moved his young family to Gadsden to seek employment. In 1947 he applied at Alabama Gas for a job. He was told he was too qualified for the only job available, which was digging ditches for gas lines. The foreman told him that he would not last past the first day – close to forty years later, Bob retired from Alagasco in management as Service Manager of Gadsden – by God’s Grace.
Bob loved his church, pastor, choir and staff. He attended choir practice five days before the Lord called him home.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Juanita Moman; and his parents, A.L. Moman and Mamie Lee Moman.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Sandra Smith of Hokes Bluff; son-in-law, Charles A. Smith; sister, Billie Currier of Oneonta, AL; brother, Marlyn Moman of Horton, Al; grandchildren, Todd Albert (DIdi)Smith Allen M. (Robin) Smith and Karen (Will) Vanoy; great-grandchildren, Courtney Smith, Dalton Smith, Madison Smith, Anna Marie Smith, Mark Smith, Michael Smith, Brady Vanoy, and Julia Vanoy; and staff of Moman’s Eye Care.
Pallbearers will be Sherman Leeth, Zachary Leeth, Randy Burns, Bill Thornton, Tim Simmons, and Marvin Walker.
Honorary pallbearers are Jay Eads, and the choir members of Bellevue Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, Disaster Relief, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
