

David Ralph Crowder, 73, of Gahanna, OH passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024. He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on March 2, 1951, to the late Charles R. Crowder and Martha Anne Crowder. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his half-brother Charles E. Crowder and half-sister Linda Johnston.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy, his two sons Phillip (Shelley) and Timothy (Lynne) Crowder and his three grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin and Lucy. He is also survived by his brother, John Crowder, sister Marty Scott, brother-in-law Larry, (Janet Lawson) along with many other nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Columbus North High School and worked as a Lineman/Supervisor for many years at AEP. He played a vital role in hurricane relief efforts, helping communities rebuild and recover during their most challenging times. He was a dedicated member of the Army reserves, serving his country with pride and commitment. He was awarded a sharpshooter badge with a rifle bar.
David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, cherishing each moment spent with his children and grandchildren. His warmth, humor and quick wit brought joy to those around him, and his generous spirit touched the lives of many. He had a special way of making everyone feel valued and loved, and his absence will be deeply felt by family and friends alike. He thoroughly enjoyed his time on the baseball fields as an umpire for many years.
As an avid sports enthusiast, David was particularly passionate about The Ohio State Football, spending countless hours discussing games, statistics and legendary players with friends and family. He found immense joy in attending his children/grandchildren’s games, cheering them on from the sidelines, and instilling in them a love for athletics that would last a lifetime. His grandchildren were the light of this life, and he loved sharing stories about his own childhood sports experiences, encouraging them to pursue their dreams both on and off the field.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, from 2pm-6pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230.
David's funeral service will take place the following afternoon Monday, December 30, at 12:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43213, in their Mausoleum Chapel.
